BUTTERWORTH: Security guard Izzat Hafiz Mohd Saad, who was wounded during a heist at a goldsmith outlet in Tesco Extra here yesterday, wants to quit his job.
However, the 27-year-old from Kuala Ketil, Kedah, said he would have to continue working as a guard should he fail to land a new job.
A shocked and bitter Izzat Hafiz said he did not ever want to experience such a painful moment.
Speaking from his bed at the Seberang Jaya Hospital, Izzat Hafiz said minutes before the robbery two of the robbers had walked passed the outlet.
“I did not suspect anything amiss until they returned and one of them suddenly whipped out a pistol, pointing in my direction.”
“They forced me to surrender my pump gun and the armed robber fired a shot, hitting my left toe,” he said.
They then forced him to lie down before firing another shot at his left thigh.
“The pain was unbearable and moments later I felt dizzy but I could still hear many more gunshots after that.
“I thought I was going to die at the very moment,” he said.
Izzat Hafiz said when the suspects fled, he saw two men lying on the ground before he himself fell unconscious. To read the full story please visit the following link;

Police in Blantyre have arrested a security guard for UK Security Company for allegedly murdering businessman Graciam Siliya of Chimwankhunda Dam residential area in the city after being caught stealing maize, bananas and pumpkins in the deceased’s field on Thursday night.
Police have since charged Simon Malemia with murder but the deceased’s family says it plans to take to task the security company. The company has, however, disassociated itself from Malemia’s alleged crime.
A close friend to Siliya, Innocent Mulenga, Sunday said he dropped the deceased—who owned a welding shop in Zingwangwa Township—home at about 8:30 pm on Thursday, only to be called two hours later about his attack a few metres from his house.
He alleged that Malemia was on duty at a nearby house when he abandoned his post to commit the crime. His official clothes were found hung at his place of work and was found in a tattered outfit, specifically for the operation.
Siliya’s widow, Christina, said she heard her husband’s screams from their maize field and later found him struggling with an assailant. She said her husband looked weak and fell several times before losing consciousness.
She claimed Malemia grabbed her throat and aimed for her private parts, assuming she was male, but she managed to free herself as neighbours had joined in and the assailant was eventually overpowered.
Christina said she dragged her husband’s body from a water hole within the field before neighbours carried him to his house.
Mulenga drove Siliya to Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QECH) where he was pronounced dead on arrival due to strangulation.
Malemia was picked from the scene by a UK Security Company vehicle to Soche Police where he is in custody. For the full story please go to the following link:

On Feb. 27, 2009, just before midnight, three suspects armed with handguns entered a medical marijuana clinic located in the 900 block of South La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles. Once inside, one of the suspects placed his gun to the forehead of an employee and forced all occupants to the rear of the business. The suspects then removed several containers of marijuana and other property from the location.
On Oct. 1, 2008, at a marijuana clinic just one block from the above mentioned location, a security guard was murdered when he attempted to stop a robbery. Recognizing the high propensity of violence during these types of crimes, detectives from Wilshire Area aggressively investigated these incidents.
On March 3, 2009, Wilshire Division robbery detectives identified the suspects of the February 27th robbery as Inglewood resident Kwinton Dillard, age 22, and Los Angeles resident Jarell Green, also 22. On March 4, 2009, both Dillard and Green were arrested in the City of Inglewood. Detectives recovered evidence linking both suspects to the robbery. For the full story please visit the link below:

A SECURITY guard has described his horror at seeing a handgun suddenly appear between a wall and the head of a young man he was talking to before the man was shot seven times in a sustained attack.
Gerard “Batt” Byrne (26), of Ferryman’s Crossing, Dublin, was standing outside the Mace supermarket on Mayor Street in the Irish Financial Services Centre (IFSC) on December 13th, 2006, when he was gunned down in a targeted shooting, an inquest heard yesterday.
Mr Byrne, who was known to the Garda, had a short time earlier remarked on a silver car he had seen pass him a number of times. He would have had concerns for his safety, investigating officer Det Insp Kevin Dolan, of Store Street Garda station, told an inquest into his death at Dublin City Coroner’s Court yesterday. Security guard at Mace supermarket Peter Walsh told the court he was standing outside the supermarket, smoking and talking to Mr Byrne and his friend Eric McMahon when, “the next thing noticed was a small black automatic handgun come up between the wall and Gerard Byrne’s head, over his right shoulder. EL PASO COUNTY, Texas — More shots are fired in the El Paso County desert and one security guard is almost shot in the chest.
Sylvestre Reyes, Jr. has been the night security guard at Lake El Paso near Horizon City for 14 months. On Monday night, he got the scare of his life. “So I was coming this way, I was making the turn, when the shot rang out,” he said.
The bullet went through the windshield and through the passenger seat. That’s when Reyes says he laid on the seat, and the truck veered into the tree.
“It would have gone through right here.” Reyes showed the middle of his chest as he described where the bullet would have gone had someone been sitting in the passenger seat of the truck.
Reyes says he waited until the vehicles drove away and he called the Sheriff’s Department. “I was afraid but it comes with the territory,” he said.
Lake El Paso sits on about 6,000 acres of private property. Reyes thinks the person shooting could have been someone he’s had to kick off the property. For the complete story please visit:

How do I choose the right security company to hire? In this field you have so many companies to choose from and it can get confusing? Why? First of all is the company licensed? Second are the bonded? Have the security officers gone through a background and drug test? What about if I’m not happy with the security guard I am sent out can I request a new one? Can I make special request on the gender, height, weight? Will the security company have any hidden fees? Will I be charged overtime for 12 hour shift security? What kind of certification do the security guards have? What kind of duties can I ask of the security officer? How can I find out if the security company is reputable? How can I find out if the security company is experienced in the type of security I need? The list of questions can be endless.
My best advise is to call around and do some research. This will take some serious time. However lets look at the big picture. Your goal is to hire a trusting security company that you can trust to look after your property. The time invested to doing your research will be greatly rewarded.

With a police helicopter flyby, the Port of Long Beach on Monday gave an airborne salute to the opening of a high-tech security facility designed to protect the second-largest U.S. seaport against terrorist attacks.
The $21 million, 25,000-square-foot facility will serve as the Los Angeles-area port’s security division headquarters and coordinate communications among about 40 local, state and federal agencies that help secure the harbor complex.
“We have one of the most innovative security operations of any seaport in the U.S.,” James Hankla, president of the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners, told an audience of about 300. Attendees included Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, police officers, FBI representatives and Coast Guard officials.
The new facility utilizes some 400 video cameras to see, officials claim, every square foot of the harbor on land and sea. It’s connected by a fiber-optic and wireless network. On a clear day, the military-grade video cameras can detect ships seven miles offshore, officials say. Some cameras are equipped with night-vision technology.
“If you wave at us from land or sea, we’ll be able to wave back,” Hankla said.
The port occupies 3,200 acres and accounts for 30,000 jobs in Long Beach and about 1.5 million jobs across the U.S. It handles about $100 billion in trade between the U.S. and Asia and other territories — everything from clothing and household goods to petroleum, automobiles and construction materials. As measured by containers processed, Long Beach ranks No. 2 only to the Port of Los Angeles. For the complete story please visit:
